Focus Areas
Eating Disorders
Eating disorders are complex mental health problems usually with underlying emotional struggles. There is no specific cause for one developing an eating disorder and it is usually a complex integration of biological, psychological and social determinants. They can be life-threatening if left untreated and have been shown to have the highest mortality rate of any mental illness. They do not discriminate and can affect any individual regardless of race, age, gender and socio-economic background. Research has shown that the sooner an eating disorder is treated the better the prognosis.
Adolescent Mental Health
Adolescence is a time of growth and development but also of vulnerability. The World Health Organization shows that today depression and anxiety are two of the highest causes for illness and disability in adolescents aged 15-19 years. In South Africa, 9% of teenage deaths are due to suicide. Our youth are facing ongoing stress and external pressures in the world today which puts them at risk of developing mental health issues.
Depression and Anxiety Disorders
Depression and anxiety are common mental health conditions that often co-exist. They can negatively affect the way you think, how you act and feel. With proper diagnosis and treatment most people will respond and overcome these mental illnesses.
